As the music industry has changed, so has the ability to capture live music performances. The advancement from analog to digital has changed the entire scope of professional photography.

Professional music photographers today face a unique set of challenges that are quite different than other types of photography that require a unique range of skills that often test the very best photographers in the world. Today’s music photographers use varying ways to get their work published, gain access, produce income and become a recognized name in the music/photography field.

Whether your just starting out in music photography, creating your own style, making new contacts, editing images, graphic design you will find a membership that’s right for you.

Professional Membership

Professional Membership is reserved for still professional music photographers who are of good moral character and maintain a favorable reputation and have been actively and consistently engaged in professional practice for 3 years or more. In order to be join as a professional member, they must demonstrate the ability to capture live images and to satisfy the image making skills requirement through assessment of images and computer-based exam. Published work is considered expert level that satisfies a requirement. Upon satisfaction of proven, experienced, technically capable will be granted the designation of Professional Certified Music Photographer.

Membership cost: $175/year.

Steps to CPMP Certification

Before you can declare yourself as a Certified Professional Music Photographer (CPMP) you must pass a required exam that proves understanding of photography terms, settings and practical hands-on knowledge along with proving image capturing skills. A CPMP designation will be given once all the requirements are completed. As a new applicant, you have up to 90 days after joining to complete your exam and submit images for review. If you do not pass the exam, you can retake it up to twice within a year of the start of your membership. Once you pass, you will be certified forever, meaning no additional exam will ever be required. Your credentials and certificate will be issued once you meet the requirements for CPMP certification.

Auto Renew Terms & Conditions – With auto-renewal, you specifically agree to the terms and conditions set forth below. You agree that AMP may change these terms and conditions at any time by posting any of the changes on our website and your failure to terminate your auto-renewal after any such posting shall constitute your acknowledgment and acceptance of the revised terms and conditions.

What is AMP Auto Renew? For your convenience, AMP will continue to renew your AMP Membership dues subscription until you notify us via email that you resign and no longer wish to be a member. AMP Members will receive an e-mail reminder thirty (30) days in advance of their annual, auto renew date.

What if I change my mind later about Auto Renew? You may cancel your auto renew subscription before it renews by contacting the AMP Membership Services, only with an email sent to [email protected] at least 48 hours prior to your auto-renewal date. An email confirmation of your request will be sent to you. If you do not receive the confirmation, please contact AMP member relations immediately. As a subscriber using the online JOIN or RENEW system, you agree to pay, using a valid credit card acceptable to AMP, the annual membership fee charges found on the JOIN NOW page of the amponline.org website. A reminder of the Renewal Date and Fee will be included on a billing statement emailed to you, 30 days prior to your membership renewal. Your Membership will continue and renew automatically, unless terminated by AMP or until you terminate your Membership in the manner provided above. AMP will not be responsible for any overdraft, or other service charges, to credit or debit cards made as a result of fees by AMP, regardless of when the fees are billed. In the event AMP cannot successfully charge your account, by Policy, AMP reserves the right to terminate your AMP Membership.

Associate Membership

Associate Membership is for photographers with less than 3 years of professional work. It is designed for music photographers who are working in the industry and have practical hands-on experience. All associate photographers must be of good moral character and reputation and continue to develop their skills though a combination of live music photography, studio work and continuing education.

Emerging Membership

The emerging photographer enjoys capturing images at concerts and music festivals as a freelance photographer. Does not work as a professional in any capacity. Captures images at small clubs, local concerts and music festivals regularly and practices learning of general photography skills and is continuously learning through both practical and continuing education.

Student Membership

Students who are eligible for a student membership are currently majoring in photography, graphic design or related imaging professions at a college or post-secondary level. After graduation from an accredited institution, a student may upgrade their membership to an emerging or associate member depending on their experience. Student applicants must annually submit proof of current enrollment. Proof of enrollment will be obtained during the online checkout process. You will need to provide the below information:
